If you’re anything like me, always looking for the next best thing in hair and beauty, you would have stumbled across the online comparisons between Shark FlexStyle and Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler. Which is kinder? Faster? Easier to use? Better on the budget?

As we prep for the highly anticipated Shark launch at HAIRHOUSE, I got my hands on this viral style sensation that is Shark FlexStyle to drill down into the reasons it is touted as a revolution in Hair Styling.

It’s safe to say, my Dyson days are over.

Here's why Shark FlexStyle is such a standout, blowing the competition out of the water.

What is Shark FlexStyle?

Shark FlexStyle is…a lot. It’s the Hair DryerCurler and Diffuser with the well-deserved global hype, taking over Tik Tok with ‘can’t-look-away’ videos showing major transformation – with minimal effort – on all Hair Types.

What Hair Styles can Shark FlexStyle achieve?

Shark FlexStyle promises to provide no-heat damage drying and styling results, but the real hook for me is the ability for Shark FlexStyle to how seamlessly it does this, switching from a no-heat Hair Dryer into a super-versatile multi-styler in a few seconds.

A Hair Dryer and Styling System in one, it’s simple to use whether you are after curls, volume, straight styles, or simply to dry your hair. The key to the success of Shark FlexStyle is the versatility – and ease - of the attachments provided. As a Hair Stylist, I need to switch things up fast and fuss-free. Shark FlexStyle lets me do that.

What is so special about the Shark FlexStyle design?

One twist turns this powerful Hair Dryer into a Hair Styler. You can dry the hair then twist and attach the accessory you need to get the style you want. You simply slide down the hinge latch at the back of the Hair Dryer and rotate the nozzle where it stays locked before attaching styling accessory you need.

Is this design a style gimmick? Maybe, but for me, it was so easy to do and the handling of Styling Tool so light and effective, it is a strong selling point.

What accessories does Shark FlexStyle come with?

  • The Styling Concentrator does what it promises: concentrating air onto the exact area of the hair you are drying or styling. I loved this feature for getting focused air around the hair line where hair can frizz or curl, and smoothing hair into sleek ponytails in minutes. The Styling Concentrator also rotates, enabling airflow to be directed exactly where you want it.

  • The Curl-Defining Diffuser is a super-impressive attachment that really delivers fast, even – and what feels like gentle – drying on curly hair. I love how you can retract the prongs for use on shorter hair, with less direct heat on the Scalp, or extend them to work with thicker, longer hair that takes a bit more hold and control to curl.

  • Two Brushes: The Oval Brush is designed to smooth, defrizz and add volume and bounce – all while delivering powerful airflow strong enough to handle thicker, curlier hair types. The Paddle Brush also feels like it’s got seriously powerful l in airflow capacity but is better used to straighten and smooth the hair.  I also love their combination of Boar Bristles and Nylon Bristles as they both do quite different jobs, detangling, smoothing, and adding shine in unison.

  • The 2 x Auto-Wrap Curlers are easy to attach, enabling curl creation or waves – if that’s what you want – with air wrapping around the barrel and drying the hair gently. Clever, quick, and kind on hair, this feature gets a big tick from me. The Auto-Wrap Curlers are 15cm in length and 3.2cm in diameter, which I find a perfect size to create a variety of curls, from big, loopy, and glam to more relaxed, beachy vibes.

Can Shark FlexStyle be good for my hair?

No Hair Styler can make your hair healthier, that all comes down to the Hair Care you use to prep and repair Heat Styled hair. But I would say that the Cool Shot Button on the Shark FlexStyle really helps at the end of the styling process to close the cuticle and smooth the hair. Intended to be the last step of your Styling process, you just hold it down for ten seconds to tame frizz, and seal hydration. My hair never feels worse off after using the Shark FlexStyle, that’s for sure.

When it comes to technology that is kind on the hair, Coanda Technology – although not exclusive to Shark - allows air to flow along a solid surface, following the curvature of the barrel. As the spinning vortex of air wraps around the barrels, it gently attracts hair, curling along the airflow. This is gentle on the hair and causes no drag or pulling.

This also maintains a low heat, measuring and regulating temperature’s 1000 times a second, giving me and my clients confidence that the Shark FlexStyle won’t get hotter as Styling progresses, damaging the hair.

What does Shark FlexStyle cost?

This is the kicker for me – at $499 Shark is a much better investment than other products on the market. This works out to be less than $1.50 per day, so whether I’m drying my hair thoroughly after a shower, smoothing a few fly-aways with the Styling Concentrator attachment when I’m on the fly, or completely reinventing my look into glam curls, beachy kinks or straight, sleek, uber chic lengths, this is an amazing investment.

What’s the fine print around Shark FlexStyle?

  • You’ve got four temperature settings to choose from, low, medium, high heat and cool shot, and three air-flow settings. This makes it a no-brainer investment that will work on all Hair Types and all Hair Styles.

  • The wattage sits at 1400W, and the cord length is 2.8metres which – in-salon and at home – makes it compact enough but still long enough to get around the head with ease.

  • The Shark FlexStyle weighs in at only 700g so, again, a great option for lugging around in the Storage Case provided.

So, what’s the verdict on Shark FlexStyle?

As a Salon Stylist working with Hair Styling Tools on the daily, I’m trained to I.D the best technology, design, and results-driven tools. Having used Dyson Airwrap, I was a bit dubious about how Shark would stack up. But I shouldn’t have been. I’m obsessed – as is every Hair Stylist I know.

In my professional opinion, if you’re just getting into the market, looking for a Hair Styler that can do it all, do it well, do it kindly and easily and give you major bang for your buck, Shark FlexStyle is your go-to get. Or, if – like me – you know your way around a Hair Styler and have zero time for hassle, Shark FlexStyle offers sophisticated, salon-level Style at a price you can’t go past.
