Q: How do I use Conditioner correctly?

A: “The answer seems simple, but we get so many customers suffering from oily roots and dry ends and the incorrect use of Conditioner is often problem.

My top tip is to always avoid applying Conditioner directly to the scalp - which can create oily residue at the roots - and don’t rinse it all your Conditioner out. Instead, Conditioner distribute evenly from mid-lengths and ends only, working through the hair gently in downward motions.

Rinse lightly but don’t wring hair out. If the ends of your hair need extra hydration, use a Leave-In Conditioner focusing on the ends once you have towel dried hair.”

Q: “Whoa…Am I losing my hair?”

A: “We get this question a lot, and although it’s normal to lose an average of 50 – 150 hairs per day, many clients are concerned about more serious hair fall.

This can be due to many things including lifestyle, pregnancy (or hormone changes in general), medications, and the extreme Australian weather, which can impact your body's natural hair growth and shedding phase.

At Hairhouse, we stock a wide range of Haircare to treat thinning hair and hair fall and offer free consultations on what might work best for you.”

Q: “How do I grow my hair faster?”

A: “There are a lot of ways to enrich hair growth including getting regular ‘maintenance’ haircuts to prevent split ends and weakened hair. Other hair growth boosters include increasing protein rich foods and taking a hair-boosting supplement.

When it comes to Heat Styling, always use a Heat Protectant, avoid Heat Styling wet hair, use a weekly Hair Mask to revive hair and sleep on a silk pillow to prevent breakage.

With so many options to boost hair growth, visit us In-Salon so we can provide the best options for you!”

Q: “I’m frustrated by frizz when Heat Styling. How do I stop it?”

A: “Frizz can affect any hair type, so you may need to reevaluate your choice of Heat Styler. The top tips we share in-salon is to always invest one of Hairhouse’s Styling Tools that reduces frizz during use.

Look for ionic technology in Heat Stylers and titanium plates in Hair Straighteners as these are designed to smooth the hair as you Heat Style.”

Q: “Help! Do I have dandruff or just a dry scalp?”

A: “Customers get very confused about the difference between a dry scalp and dandruff. While a dry scalp can be caused by lack of moisture in the area, dandruff is the opposite, stimulated by too much oil at the scalp which causes excessive growth of skin yeast called Malassezia. This creates a build-up of skin cells which, when shedding, create Dandruff.

At Hairhouse, we suggest ensuring your scalp is being sufficiently cleansed and the pH levels, balanced. Choosing a Haircare program that includes a Scalp Cleanser, Shampoo and Treatment is the best first step to deal with Dandruff.

At Hairhouse we offer free Hair Health Consultations to start you on your journey to better Scalp Health and an end to Dandruff, so book online or just drop in-store to receive the best solution for you.”

Q: “How regularly should I get a haircut?”

A: “By far the most common question our Hairhouse Salon Stylists hear. If you are trying to maintain a particular Hair Style or shape, we suggest a trim every 4 - 6 weeks as this will maintain your look.

If you are trying to grow your hair, you can get it trimmed every 8-10 weeks, but Haircare should be ramped up here if you wait longer between Salon visits. Lastly, if you are just wanting to keep your hair super healthy and in its very best condition, frequent trims will prevent split ends and weakened hair. Whatever your Hair journey, Hairhouse has Professionals in every Salon to help you achieve your goals.”

Q: “Why is my blonde going brassy?”

A: “There are many possibilities here. If you are finding you are rarely happy with your In-Salon blonde once it settles, it could be that your undertone is naturally warm. If your natural hair has been lifted higher than the natural base shade, warmth will be amplified which can create brassy, yellow tones to blonde.

Working with your Salon Stylist to create your dream blonde shade is possible, but we always suggest clients bring in inspo images so you can collaborate on a realistic blonde shade for you.

Hairhouse Salon Stylists will only create a blonde that is achievable on your current shade and provide a Professional program to keep brassiness at bay.

Keeping Heat Styling Tools at a low, gentle temperature and always using Thermal Heat Protection is also essential to protect your blonde. Going into the warmer months, be aware that sun, chlorine, excessive exposure to harsh water and over washing your hair can also contribute to an imbalance in your blonde.”

Q: “How often should I wash my hair?”

A: “This is completely dependent on your hair type, the health of your hair, your personal activities and even your workout schedule. If you’re more active or potentially use more Styling Product in your hair, you may need to wash it more.

We are always told to ‘listen to our body’, and we suggest customers ‘listen to their hair.’ If your hair is feeling unclean when you are washing it regularly or even too shiny and hard to manage if you are skipping wash days, head in-store to get a Professional take on the perfect washing plan for your hair.”
