Here’s How Hairhouse Foundation Supports Ovarian Cancer Australia
– And You Can Too.
Ovarian cancer is the deadliest female cancer in Australia. Every day, five women are diagnosed, and three will lose their lives to this disease. Yet, it still lacks adequate funding.
In 2023 the Hairhouse Foundation partnered with Ovarian Cancer Australia (OCA) to raise urgent awareness and support for women and families facing the disease and since then, $150,000 has been raised through the in-store and online round up programs and sales of the Mermade Hair Double Waver in Teal, Tote Bags and products from partner brands such as Nioxin.
“By bringing teal into their stores and speaking openly about ovarian cancer, Hairhouse has helped to change the narrative, ensuring that these women feel seen, supported, and not alone,” explains Debbie Shiell, OCA CEO.
“Their commitment to fundraising and awareness is a powerful reminder that together, we can work toward a future where better treatments, early detection, and greater research investment are possible,” she continues. “This is the true value of partnerships like ours with Hairhouse Foundation. It enables OCA to offer holistic care that supports the physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of women and their families throughout their journey.”
“Partnerships like the one between OCA and Hairhouse Foundation are more than just collaborations - they are lifelines,” adds Debbie. “Hairhouse has not only raised vital funds but has amplified the voice of women living with ovarian cancer across the nation.”
“For over 30 years, Hairhouse has been proud to support and empower Australian women,” says Michael O’Connell, Hairhouse COO. “Our partnership with OCA is an extension of our commitment to the women we serve - ensuring we are not only helping them look and feel their best but also supporting their health and wellbeing. Together, with our customers and community, we are determined to make a lasting difference.”
Michael is quick to point out that the money raised is just the beginning. “In the future, we hope to grow this partnership even bigger, with more special products, more ways for our customers to get involved, and even greater support for women affected by ovarian cancer,” he says. “Together, with our customers support, we believe we can help change the story of ovarian cancer — and we’re so excited to keep making an impact, one step at a time.”
Debbie agrees that the impact is already proving life changing, and can continue to do so, one dollar at a time. “Every cent raised, and every voice amplified brings us closer to a world where ovarian cancer is not a silent disease.”
