Confused by the Titanium Vs Ceramic talk? These Heat Styling Tool features may sound complicated, but they make Heat Styling your hair incredibly simple.

What is Titanium?

Commonly found in Hair Straighteners and Hair Curlers, titanium is a light, strong metal that makes up the heated plates, providing excellent stability at high temperatures. Titanium surfaces are combined with ionic composites for enhanced negative ion release, resulting in silky, frizz-free hair. As titanium is an extremely hard and ultra-smooth surface, it reduces friction when in contact with hair, making it ideal for Hair Straighteners and Curling Tools.

The Do’s:

  • Choose titanium to speed up styling time as it heats up immediately.
  • If you have thicker or coarser hair, titanium Heat Stylers are the recommended option for your hair type. Keep your Heat Styler at a recommended temperature of 190 degrees to further reduce the risk of damage.

The Don’ts:

  • If you have finer hair, titanium plates may prove too hot, increasing the risk of further damage.
  • Check authenticity as some cheaper Heat Stylers are only coated with a thin layer of titanium, rather than being entirely made up the material. This can cause uneven distribution of heat on the hair and prove damaging.

What is Ceramic Technology?

Ceramic technology describes a clay composite material that is used in the body of the Hair Dryer within the heating element, or as a coating on internal and external parts. Ceramic technology creates an infrared heat that penetrates the hair shaft, preserving moisture and lustre.

The Do’s:

  • Ceramic Heat Styling Tools distribute heat evenly across the Heat Styling plates, preventing damaging hot spots. As ceramic seals moisture into the hair, there is less chance of over-drying the hair during Heat Styling.
  • Ceramic plates that include ionic technology help smooth the hair cuticle for a frizz-free, shiny finish. Gentle on the hair, ceramic plates are idea for thin, fine, damaged or colour treated hair and hair extensions.

The Don’ts:

  • Handle ceramic tools with care as - despite their many benefits - they are prone to cracking or chipping if dropped or used roughly. This can result in hot spots appearing on the plate that may singe or burn the hair.
  • Some tools are not always 100% ceramic so unless specified as 'pure' ceramic, many straighteners are merely 'ceramic-coated, which may wear off over time, exposing the less hair-friendly metal underneath.
